Feb. 4th, 2010 04:54 pmMy grandparents met 61 years ago today.
My Nanny was engaged (to Murray Wolfe) and she went to Miami with some of her friends for a weekend. She was out on the beach one day and saw a cute man (from the Navy!). He bought her a box of chocolates, she thinks it was Whitman's because Bachman's (at least I think that's the other name she gives) wasn't available in Florida. She really liked chocolate and loved that this man knew the way to her heart was through the jiggle in her thigh. She fell in love. She dumped Murray and married my grandfather on January 21, 1950. She randomly brings up Murray when she wants to rub it in my grandfather's face how lucky he is to have her. He is very lucky to have her.
Sixty years last week. That is a long long long time.
That also means my parents will be married for 35 years this year.
My sister and I will both be married for 5 years this year.
Also very long times but they don't seem nearly as long in comparison.
The whole family stuck to easy numbers - 1950, 1975, 2005 (if only my sister had gotten married 5 years earlier, she could've kept the 25 yr trend going).
Oh, and Meryl and Starr's 1st anniversary came and went. They're still married. They went on a short cruise (with my grandparents) and celebrated their anniversaries together. Which is nice in one regard but in the other, really Meryl, it's time to cut the umbilical cord.
