Dear Sirs: I was surprised with the rather high shipping and handling cost, as well as the tax amount. I looked into the process, and indeed, the shipping and handling does add to the taxable amount. "Sales tax is calculated based on the cost of items purchased including shipping and handling charges." However, there does seem to be a mistake with your calculation rate. According to the rules of taxation, the place of sale is where the item is delivered, not the shipping location: "Since transfer of title takes place at the point of delivery, the sales price on which sales tax is calculated includes the cost to deliver the purchased product to the new owner. In effect the sale doesn't take place until delivery. " It looks like you are playing it both ways, at the expense of the customer. Either the sale is 1) at the sending location (in which case the shipping and handling cost would not apply in the tax calculation) but the shipping location tax rate is used, or 2) at the delivery location, in which case the shipping charges are added, but the delivery location tax rate applies. According to NY State law, the second case is the rule. Thus, the tax rate should be for Somers, NY, at 7.375% and not Ronkonkoma at 8.625%. Therefore, the actual tax should have been $2.08 and not the $2.44 charged. I would appreciate being contacted by the proper person to settle this discrepancy. Very truly yours, Rick ******


this is the customer i had today. first he called then he emailed. he spent time calling, emailing and researching all this for THIRTY SIX CENTS!!!

I would love to have time like that. I wanted to call his boss and tell them to dock his pay cause he was obviously not working, unless his job is just to be an annoying pain in the ass.
